Frank Buck

Frank Buck was born on March 17, 1888 in Gainesville, Texas, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Africa Screams (1949), Jungle Cavalcade (1941) and Tiger Fangs (1943). He was married to Muriel Feilly, Nina C. Boardman and Lillian West. He died on March 25, 1950 in Houston, Texas.Outdoor adventurer and so-called "lion-tamer." His slogan regarding the hunt for ferocious beasts: "Bring 'em back alive!" For many years the Frank Buck zoo was located in Massapequa Park, New York Won a substantial sum of money in a poker game, which financed his first expedition to Brazil. For several years, he supplied zoos in the U.S. with exotic animals. He lost most of his money in the stock market crash of 1929, then became director of the San Diego Zoo. The following year, he wrote his best-seller "Bring 'em back alive" which revived his fortunes. He subsequently worked at Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and had a lucrative spell in movies. Quit school after the 7th grade and worked at a variety of different jobs, including cow-punching and selling songs to vaudeville singers. The lung ailment that killed him was lung cancer.
