The prolific actor also appeared in Alien (1979), Heaven's Gate (1980), The Osterman Weekend (1983), The Hit (1984), the 1984 film adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, three Harry Potter films and the biopic Jackie. In 2012, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts honored Hurt with a lifetime achievement award. He died on January 27, 2017 at the age of 77 after battling pancreatic cancer.
