Stuart Burge

Stuart Burge was born on January 15, 1918 in Brentwood, Essex, England. He was a director and producer, known for Drama 61-67 (1961), Talking Heads 2 (1998) and BBC Sunday-Night Theatre (1950). He was married to Josephine Parker. He died on January 24, 2002 in Lymington, Hampshire, England.Spouse Josephine Parker (1949 - 24 January 2002) (his death) (5 children) He directed four actors in Oscar nominated performances: Laurence Olivier, Frank Finlay, Joyce Redman and Maggie Smith, all for Othello (1965). A renowned stage and pioneer television director, a single drama specialist at the BBC. A former actor, he was responsible in the 60's and 70's for elevating the Nottingham Playhouse into one of leading theatres in Britain and for rescuing London's Royal Court Theatre from bankruptcy. He directed two adaptations of William Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar": World Theatre: Julius Caesar (1959) and Julius Caesar (1970). Michael Gough appeared in both, playing Cassius in the former and Metellus Cimber in the latter.
