Wanda Ventham

Wanda Ventham was born on August 5, 1935 in Brighton, East Sussex, England. She is an actress, known for UFO (1970), Invasion: UFO (1974) and Sherlock (2010). She has been married to Timothy Carlton since 1976. They have one child. She was previously married to James D. Tabernacle.she is the mother of film star Benedict Cumberbatch. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. She has a daughter named Tracy from her first marriage. She and husband Timothy Carlton play the mother and father of Sherlock Holmes on Sherlock (2010). Sherlock is of course played by their real son, Benedict Cumberbatch. She lost out on the part of Jill Masterson, the character who is painted gold in Goldfinger (1964), to Shirley Eaton. Ventham was later painted gold for her role as Thea Ransome in the television serial Doctor Who: Image of the Fendahl: Part One (1977). She was considered for the major guest role of Preston in Doctor Who: Warriors of the Deep: Part One (1984), which went to Tara Ward. Has gone on record as ridiculing the idea of Michael Caine being as highly regarded an actor as Ian Hendry.
